July 2019 Updates

Happy July everyone. I have some GREAT NEWS!

a snippet of the 34 series art project by Abstract Artist Laura Noel

The 34 series is FINISHED. Over a year in the making, “34” is a series of Thirty-Four inter-connected abstract paintings exploring the theme of “Abstract Art as Autobiography.” Each painting loosely represents a year of my life, and the significant events and emotions surrounding that year. It has been the most ambitious personal project I’ve taken on to date, and has resulted in the largest cohesive body of work I’ve produced in my career. I am so excited to share the final paintings with you!

OTHER NEWS: Now that the series is finished I’ll be spending the majority of the rest of the month prepping for and promoting the upcoming show, cleaning and re-organizing my art studio, and making some decisions about the next project i’ll be undertaking. I am also exciting to confirm that I’ll be attending this year’s ARTOCADE Art Car show in Trinidad, Co with The EcheVariABle Stay tuned for more updates about that and other things. December 2018

Greetings and happy holidays!

Well, hard to believe but here we are in December. The year is winding down and I’m happy to report it’s been a *fantastic one*. Besides enjoying great success with my (non-art) freelancing business, I’ve been able to travel extensively, spend so much quality time with friends and family, and make so much fulfilling art!

I’m still actively working on the “34” Series and previewed the first 7 of the completed works in November at the 2018 Vallejo Open Studios  They were well received and looked gorgeous hanging in my friend Sherry Tobin’s Art House. (A whimsical, magically decorated house full of her amazing mosaic art that is also available as an AirBnb getaway rental!)

As I head into 2019 I am going to continue working on the series with an anticipated finish of Spring 2019. Besides the ambitious “34″ I already have several other series planned for the new year.

As I look forward to 2019 I’m excited to share more of what I’m working on and shift even more of my time and energy towards painting.  I’m posting more often on my Instagram these days, so be sure to follow me to see the latest work in progress videos and behind the scenes clips! Also don’t forget if you’re still looking for a great holiday gift for the special folks in your life, check out my page at Fine Art America where you can buy prints and other unique gifts featuring my original art!

April 2018, the 34 series

Happy April! Spring is here and a whole new series is blossoming at studio Laura.

What 34 canvases look like stacked next to each other

In anticipation of my next birthday I’ve started an ambitious set of 34 paintings (for the 34 years I’ll have been roaming around this planet come July)  They are all large scale 2 foot by 3 foot abstract works in acrylic paint. Each one will roughly represent a year of my life and the significant feelings and emotions associated with that year. I am trying out a lot of new techniques with this series and am excited by the additional challenge of attempting to convey a sense of autobiography to works that are inherently abstract.

Year “Zero” in progress

Years 14 and 1 in progress

I started the project March 12, with a full tilt decision to do the entire set of 34 by that weekend. 3 weeks in I have the first layer done on all 34 paintings, have made significant progress on half a dozen of them, and have successfully decided which “years” each one will represent.

Year “18” in progress

I have already fielded several inquiries from friends, family, and fans who are interested in purchasing specific pieces. These are the terms I’ll be offering for the finished paintings:

  1. My goal is to complete all 34 paintings by my 34th birthday, which is July 24th of 2018.
  2. When completed I plan to offer the individual paintings for sale at the price of $700 each, plus applicable taxes/shipping.
  3.  I retain all copyrights and other rights to the work, including the right to reproduce and make prints of the art. I plan on making prints available of the entire series, in a variety of sizes and price points to suit all budgets.
  4. There will be a delay in final shipment/delivery of any individual original work that is reserved/purchased, as I plan to show the entire set together for a period of at least 6 months, although I reserve the right to extend the show period for up to a year if there is significant interest/available venue to display the entire set.

I will be posting many updates on this project as I go. If you want to reserve a specific piece at any time, comment, tag, or email me and I’ll put you on an “interested buyer” list. Since I expect the paintings to evolve and change as they develop, the final individual paintings will be offered to buyers in order that their request comes in. If there are multiple persons interested in the same piece, the first buyer can decide if they want it (within a reasonable time frame TBD) and if they decline the next person will be contacted and so forth.  As the set is further developed I may decide on a deposit system, but I am still sorting out some of the details.

In time frame, quantity, and scale, this is definitely the most ambitious personal art project I’ve ever taken on. I am excited to create these works and share them with you. I hope you enjoy following along as they progress!
